Aerial Lift
What you'll learn:
Safety, site conditions, hazards, and operating capabilities (in class);
Practical training with each of the three main aerial machines you are most likely to use on set: elevating rolling work platforms;
Self-propelled boom supported elevating work platforms;
Self-propelled elevating work platforms.
Please note that you MUST have updated and valid Working at Heights Certification in order to enrol in this course.

EDI (Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) Representative
As per the collective agreement, Appendix M, the EDI Representative is a specifically trained representative who assists individuals with concerns related to equity, diversity and inclusion. Their role on set is to promote fairness for NABET technicians, supporting their right to a workplace that is free of discrimination as required by the Human Rights Code.
Those who are interested in being an on-set EDI Representative are required to complete this course before they can assume the role.

We begin with the foundational course Why Representation Matters – The Importance of Diversity which is designed for those who are committed to fostering a more inclusive and diverse industry.

Entertainment Rigging LVL 1
This one-day intensive teaches key fundamentals and rigging principles in the entertainment industry through theory presentation, live demonstrations and hands-on exercises. As an introductory-level training course, it does not qualify any participant as a Certified Rigger.

Entertainment Rigging LVL 2
In this workshop, participants take the basic principles, practices and theories taught in Rigging Level 1 and apply them to hands-on projects. Working in small teams, participants will find safe overhead lifting solutions to common on-set rigging problems. This workshop requires the use of self-propelled mobile lifts.

ESA Electrical Safety Awareness I
This course, designed and taught by the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) gives participants an understanding of the hazards of electric shock, basic Ontario Electrical Safety Code rules and electrical product approval requirements.

This comprehensive course will give you the skills you need to safely operate a telehandler and a counterbalance forklift.

General Props Training Course
This training is designed for all Members and Permittees, and especially geared towards those in on-set positions, those looking to add Props as a second category, or Props Assistants seeking an upgrade. Topics covered will be wide ranging, including props standards, food, medical, weapons, interdepartmental collaboration and much more. By the end of training, participants should have a better understanding of departmental procedures, general skills, and enhanced safety knowledge.

Generator Operator Seminar
Hosted by WFW. An advanced two-day seminar which includes basic skills/hands-on experience operating entertainment industry generators coupled with associated electrical safety practices and on-set protocol. Topics include engine alternators, grounding, bonding, operations, temporary power sources, electrical distribution systems, transformer theory and more. The course is comprised of 75% theory and 25% practical training. Our instructors are industry professionals who possess a wide variety of expertise, knowledge and practical experiences.

GrandMA2 Basics Workshop
This introductory workshop will include 2 hours of lecture style information and 1 hour of hands-on instruction.
This workshop will provide you with basic understanding of grand MA2, how it operates in film, and be able to pursue more in-depth GrandMA training.

Introductory LED Technician Seminar
This course is intended for those who are looking to learn more about low voltage LED systems and how to complete an LED install on set from the designer’s concept to the final result. You will identify what steps need to be taken and what questions need to be asked to bring the art department’s rendering to life using LEDs.

Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC)
This 5-day intensive Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) training is provided by the Workers Health & Safety Centre and approved by the Ministry of Labour.
Members must commit to attending all 5 days + pass various tests to receive their certification.

Lighting Department 101
Designed and geared towards Permittees, but also open to Members looking for additional information on the Lighting Department.
The purpose of this training is to prepare technicians to be confident union lamp operators. Over a 2-day period that includes both classroom and hands-on learning, we will address the life of a daily, whether on the road or in the studio, and provide department specific training, tips and safety information.

Makeup for Black and Brown Skin Tones
The purpose of this course is to give a better understanding of colour and how it applies to makeup on darker skin tones, as well as how to overcome some common mistakes during the makeup application process. This course consists of a small lecture in addition to demos. Time will be left for hands-on practice. This course is designed for beginner to advanced artists.

Makeup Technician 101 Training
Spend the day brushing up on the 101 makeup skills you don’t often get to practice or wish you knew more about! Consisting of short lectures and demonstrations throughout with the key focus being hands-on practice, this course is designed for Permittees looking for further information on how to achieve certain makeups and prepare for their trade test. Training will be set up like being on a film set with six straight hours of work where you can snack in between clean-ups and set-ups.

Propane Safety
This course will provide you with a general understanding of the safe and efficient use of propane tanks. Training includes a classroom presentation and discussion followed by a hands-on component. You'll learn all about handling, storing, transporting and installation of propane cylinders. You'll also be able to identify the health and safety hazards associated with changing a propane tank.
Propane Certification must be renewed every three (3) years.

Props 2.0

NABET 700-M UNIFOR is pleased to launch the Props 2.0 advanced training course that provides an in-depth look at the upper positions of the Collective Agreement: Props Buyer, Props Builder, and Props Master.
Participants will be given a Templates Bundle for future use, e.g., Budget/Breakdown with pre-set formulas, Props Run Sheet, Props Image Sheet, and more!

Pyrotechnics Safety & Legal Awareness
This training provides in-depth safety and legal awareness, as well as product and procedure information about the use of Special Effects Pyrotechnics in Canada as directed by the Explosives Regulatory Division (ERD).

This one-day course focuses on textured hair care, texture definition, and completing a silk press.

Textured Hair Workshop with Mykael Jackman
Hands-on Textured Hair training with Red Seal hairstylist/Barber Certified Teacher, Mykael Jackman.
During this 2-day workshop, Mykael and team will give a textured hair talk, demystify some of the art in manipulating textured hair, provide product education, and demonstrate a variety of textured hairstyling procedures.

Weapons for Film and TV

NABET 700-M UNIFOR is pleased to announce a comprehensive, one-of-a-kind Weapons for Film and TV training course designed to give participants a rounded knowledge of the proper procedures, laws, regulations, and best practices for using weapons and firearms in film and television. This 4hr training was developed in conjunction with industry stakeholders, Producers, Production Managers, Armourers and Props Masters from across the GTA.
The course content, which includes a Weapons Show and Tell and Sample Scene Demo, is most applicable to Props and Set Decoration technicians but useful for anyone interested in learning more.

Those who are interested in being an on set Women’s Representative are required to complete this course before they can assume the role. Any person who identifies as a woman or has a gender identity other than cis* man may fill the role.
