Apprenticeship
Program
At NABET 700-M UNIFOR, we focus on growth, development, and diversity within our membership and the film, television, and digital media industries. We've integrated an apprenticeship program into our Collective Agreement as part of this commitment.
The Apprenticeship Program offers on-the-job training with paid placements on NABET 700-M UNIFOR productions for those looking to start a career in the film, television, and digital media industry.
NABET 700-M UNIFOR apprentices will receive hands-on training by working alongside our skilled members, gaining the necessary days of experience to later apply for Permittee Status.
You can apply for this program if you're a Canadian citizen, Permanent resident, or Foreign national with a valid work permit. Prior experience in the film, television, and digital media industries is not mandatory but recommended. We receive applications year-round.
Please read the following application process carefully, as we do not accept incomplete applications.

Attach one copy of your most updated resume
No industry experience is necessary to apply for this program. However, including a recommendation letter from a former employer or teacher can enhance your application.

When crafting a letter of interest, you're essentially expressing your desire to join our apprenticeship program. It typically includes your background, an explanation of your interest in a specific department, and a description of how enrolling in this program would enhance your career prospects.

Complete the Worker and Supervisor Health & Safety Modules from the Ministry of Labour
At the end of the module, you can download a digital certificate of completion to include with your application. You can access the Health and Safety Awareness Training Modules by clicking or tapping the buttons below:

Submit your application to the office via mail, in person, or email: apprenticeship@nabet700.com
When a production company shows interest in hiring an apprentice, we forward the applicant's resume to the Production Manager and the Department Head/Key. Please note that the union is not involved in hiring apprentices, so we can't provide a timeline for when or if a production will reach out. The selection process and apprentices' work schedule depend on agreements with the Production and the Head of Department.

SKILLS
DEVELOPMENT
FUND
In alignment with our objectives, we are committed to securing positions for 25 apprentices through this program. Out of this cohort this year, we aim to have 15 individuals self-identifying as BIPOC and 5 women making strides in traditionally underrepresented departments.
Applicants: send us your application using the same forms and documents described above. Unlike the apprentices placed through the Collective Agreement, NABET'S On-the-Job Trainee program covers participants' wages up to $5,000 per apprentice. This is made possible through the generous backing of the Skills Development Fund Grant awarded to NABET 700-M UNIFOR by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development. SDF apprentices are only placed after production has fulfilled their contractual obligation to take on collective agreement apprentices.

Currently, COVID-19 protocols are scaled back, and proof of vaccination status is not required to work on most productions. This is subject to change depending on the resurgence of COVID-19. Each production is responsible for implementing its own COVID-19 policies and procedures, which may include a vaccination policy, if necessary, to ensure the safety of the cast and crew.
