ENTERTAINMENT RIGGING

This one-day intensive teaches key fundamentals and rigging principles in the entertainment industry through theory presentation, live demonstrations and hands-on exercises.
This workshop will cover and emphasize the following learning objectives:
Competency and the importance of creating a rigging plan
Design and safety factors, risk management
Explain use and inspection of engineered and rated hardware for controlled overhead lifting of a secure load
Discuss load forces on rigging systems and show practical examples
Demonstrate use of hitches, slings, bridal points, connectors, and anchors
How to read all manufacturers' warning labels and understand working load limits and breaking strength of materials
Understand fiber rope properties, use, handling, knot tying, coiling, and load limits
Demonstrate wire rope, handling, coiling, load limits, and tools needed to swage eye terminations
Understand single and multiple line rigging, block and tackle, mechanical advantage, and counterweight rigging
Exposure to principles of manual and motorized chain hoists
De-rigging plan - same importance as principles of creating a rigging plan

Gary MacLeod (B.F.A., ETCP Certified Rigger, W.H.S.C. Certified Instructor) has 40 plus years of experience in the Entertainment Industry working as a studio consultant, supervising staging and aerial rigger, designer, props maker, sculptor, painter, stagehand, and grip. Conducting training workshops since 1999, some clients include CBC, NABET 700-M UNIFOR, William F. White, Sheridan, Niagara and Humber Colleges.
Participants must have a valid Working at Heights certification (Proof required) and Safety Boots.
