NABET 700-M UNIFOR is pleased to announce a comprehensive, one-of-a-kind Weapons for Film and TV training course designed to give participants a rounded knowledge of the proper procedures, laws, regulations, and best practices for using weapons and firearms in film and television. This 4hr training was developed in conjunction with industry stakeholders, Producers, Production Managers, Armourers and Props Masters from across the GTA.
The course content, which includes a Weapons Show and Tell and Sample Scene Demo, is most applicable to Props and Set Decoration technicians but useful for anyone interested in learning more. Note: This is NOT a replacement for a Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC); however, it will provide basic literacy in the following subjects:
Definitions of weapons/legally restricted weapons
On-set procedures for non-restricted weapons
What are "Softs," and why are they used?
Dummy ammunition
Definition of firearms, types and exceptions
Legislation and regulation for film and television production
The role and duties of an Armourer
General on-set safety procedures and recommendations for replica firearms
The role of ETF
Who can handle and transport weapons?
Insurance
What is a Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL)?
What is the Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC)?
Instructors
Samantha Little is a NABET 700-M Props Master, Buyer and Builder with over 10 years of experience in film and TV. She also is a DGC Production Manager and CMPA producer member with her company Little Productions. Samantha also has a long history of teaching and education at all levels. She has been mentoring in film and television through WiFT and CMPA Programs. She created an apprenticeship program for young stage managers in classical music and graduated over a dozen new SMs. She ran her own teaching studio as an RCM affiliate teacher as well as two private academies for over 20 years with hundreds of students as well as worked with the TDSB in curriculum development.
