ABOUT US

Established in 1970, NABET 700-M UNIFOR was created to supply videotape technicians. However, it later expanded its services to include television and film technicians for Toronto's growing production industry.

In 1994, Nabet 700 merged with the Communications, Energy, and Paperworkers Union of Canada (CEP), the third-largest trade union in North America with a membership base of over 180,000 members.

In 2013, the CEP and the CAW merged to form UNIFOR, Canada's largest private-sector union, representing more than 300,000 members from all sectors nationwide. NABET 700-M UNIFOR currently has over 3,000 qualified technicians in fourteen departments of the film and television industry.

At NABET 700-M UNIFOR, our members are selected to work on productions based on their qualifications rather than seniority. This approach empowers productions to choose the best-suited technicians for each project, benefiting the producers and our members.

We are a film union representing almost 3,000 highly skilled film, television and digital media Technicians across 14 technical departments in the Province of Ontario.

NABET 700-M UNIFOR is committed to protecting the rights and interests of our members, advocating for fair compensation, safe working conditions, and work-life balance, and celebrating the creative contributions of our skilled technicians.  We believe that by working together, we can create a more equitable, sustainable, and vibrant workforce that benefits our members and the Film & Television industry at large.
