Makeup Course for Black

and Brown Skin Tones

The purpose of this course is to give a better understanding of colour and how it applies to makeup on darker skin tones, as well as how to overcome some common mistakes during the makeup application process.

This course consists of a small lecture in addition to demos. Time will be left for hands-on practice. This course is designed for beginner to advanced artists. 

Participants should arrange one model with a medium to darker skin tone to accompany them, e.g., Black, or South Asian skin tone, or Fenty Beauty shade ranges of medium, medium-deep, deep for reference.

Tools & Equipment
Participants should bring the required kit materials for a straight/glam makeup look for a character in film, as well as out-of-kit effects materials that are required for the effects listed below.

Course Content
The following topics will be covered in this training:

  • Selecting and matching foundations for darker skin tones

  • Correcting Post-inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH) and dark under eye circles

  • Applying colour

  • Sunscreen

  • Bruising, wounds and abrasions on dark skin, including burns and blisters

  • Kit audit also available – if you have questions about a specific product in your kit, please bring it along for a consultation with the instructor

Instructor:
Elle St. Aubyn is an established Toronto makeup artist with over 20 years of experience. She graduated with honors from The School of Makeup Art and Bruno’s School of Hair Design where she excelled in makeup artistry and hairstyling. Elle has been employed with many prestigious makeup companies including MAC, Lancome, Cargo and Urban Decay, and also worked for CBC Television. She stays in high demand thanks to her professionalism, artistry and niche skills in hair and makeup application for global skin tones. She continues to adapt her skills to stay on trend with the latest hair and makeup products and techniques and brings her passion for enhancing natural beauty to every client. Elle has become a permittee in both Toronto unions, NABET 700-M UNIFOR and IATSE 873 most recently wrapping the project The Kings of Napa which can be viewed on OWN.
