PERMITTEE STATUS

To obtain a full membership status with NABET 700-M UNIFOR, you must first become a Permittee. They are eligible to work on NABET 700-M UNIFOR signatory productions after all available Members have been considered for work opportunities.

Individuals with Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, or a valid work permit as a foreign national are eligible to apply for Permittee Status. We receive applications year-round.

Please read the following application process carefully, as we do not accept incomplete applications.

Obtain your NABETiquette certificate

Remember to include your certificate or proof of payment in your Permittee Application Package. After finishing the course, you will get an electronic copy of your certificate, which remains valid for two years. Certificates submitted on or before July 9, 2017, will be accepted. Please provide any extra requirements for your department and copies of any relevant licenses (Transport/Hair).

The departmental requirements are at the bottom of this page. If your department is not listed, there are no extra requirements.

Complete the Worker and Supervisor Health & Safety Modules from the Ministry of Labour

At the end of the module, you can download a digital certificate of completion to include with your application. You can access the Health and Safety Awareness Training Modules by clicking or tapping the buttons below:

Attach one copy of your most updated resume

You need at least 40 days of work experience in film, television, or digital media in the department you're applying to. We define "relevant" work experience as consistent skill development in your chosen department. This involves:

  • Non-union/Commercial/Online Audiovisual Productions.

  • Student films/Volunteer work.

  • On-stage productions.

  • Print & Advertising.

International experience is also taken into account.

After you submit your application, it will be reviewed by the Department VP/Committee. You will be notified by email and regular mail once a decision has been reached. If you're applying to multiple departments, remember to submit a separate application for each one.

NABETiquette

NABETiquette is a set etiquette and protocol course that we offer and is mandatory if you want to join NABET 700-M UNIFOR. You can register for this course by calling the office at 416-536-4827 with a credit card number or by booking an appointment to visit the office. We accept cash (it must be exact change), credit, debit, or cheque. You MUST register and pay in advance to reserve your spot.

Currently, COVID-19 protocols are scaled back, and proof of vaccination status is not required to work on most productions. This is subject to change depending on the resurgence of COVID-19. Each production is responsible for implementing its own COVID-19 policies and procedures, which may include a vaccination policy, if necessary, to ensure the safety of the cast and crew.
